# Secure the AI you build, buy, and code with

AI is writing your code, running inside your products, and arriving through your vendors. Clearly AI reviews all three: security requirements in your coding agents' plans, MAESTRO threat models for the agents you build, and risk reviews for the AI models and vendors you buy. Every finding is cited to its source, and your security and AI governance teams make the call.

_The review gap_

## How do you review AI at the speed it ships?

Coding agents are producing more code than security teams can read. Product teams are shipping agents that call tools, read data, and take actions on their own. And every business unit has an AI vendor it wants approved this week.

The review process hasn't caught up. Threat models are still built by hand, often with frameworks designed for web services rather than autonomous agents. AI risk questionnaires run through a separate process, owned by a separate team. Developers working with coding agents get security feedback after the code is written, if they get it at all.

So AI reviews queue up behind everything else, and AI features can ship before anyone has assessed them.

## How it works

01 **Start the review**

A Jira ticket, intake form, vendor request, or chat conversation starts the review. Developers can also request one from their AI coding agent in plan mode.

02 **Gather the context**

Clearly AI pulls in the agent design, system prompts, tool definitions, code, model cards, and vendor documentation behind the AI system.

03 **Run every review that applies**

Your workflow runs the reviews you've set for that system, like a MAESTRO threat model, an AI risk review, and a privacy impact assessment, in parallel. Every finding is cited and every gap flagged.

04 **Decide and track**

Your reviewer edits and approves each review. Findings go to Jira, Slack, and the risk registry, where they stay until they're closed.

- 01 Start: Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, Linear
- 02 Gather
- 03 Review
- 04 Decide: Jira, Slack, ServiceNow, OneTrust

## Security in the coding agent's plan

When an AI agent writes the code, your security requirements need to be part of what it knows. Clearly AI puts them there.

- **Requirements in plan mode:** Coding agents call the Clearly AI MCP server while planning and get a Secure Design Advisor review back: policy-aligned security requirements and open design questions, before any code is written
- **Checked at implementation:** Before merge, implementation reviews check the change against the plan, the design, the ticket, and the existing threat model, and flag drift. Security-impacting changes get a new threat model.
- **Every review type, from the IDE:** Threat models, privacy assessments, and AI risk reviews are all available to developers and their agents
- **The agents your developers already use:** Cursor, Claude Code, Kiro, Devin, Codex, and any MCP-compatible agent

[See how security works in the IDE](https://clearly-ai.com/platform/ide-and-mcp)

_Agentic design reviews_

## Threat models built for agents

An agent decides what to do, calls tools, and acts on data with the permissions you gave it. Clearly AI threat models agentic systems with MAESTRO, a threat modeling framework built for agentic AI.

- **The whole agent, layer by layer:** The models, data, agent framework, tools, and infrastructure, plus the other agents and MCP servers it connects to, each reviewed for the threats that apply
- **The risks specific to agents:** Prompt injection, excessive tool permissions, data leakage through context, unsafe autonomy, and trust between agents and MCP servers
- **From the docs you already have:** Agent designs, system prompts, tool definitions, and code feed the threat model. When the design doesn't say what a tool can access, Clearly AI flags it as missing instead of guessing.
- **The framework each system calls for:** Set each workflow to the methodology the system needs, like MAESTRO for an AI agent and STRIDE for a web service [See the threat modeling frameworks Clearly AI supports](https://clearly-ai.com/solutions/continuous-threat-modeling#frameworks)

See MAESTRO threat modeling with Clearly AI

_AI risk reviews_

## Risk reviews for every AI model and vendor

Every AI system your company builds or buys needs an assessment. Clearly AI drafts it from the documentation that already exists.

- **In-house and third-party AI:** Assess AI models, agents, and LLM features for security, privacy, and compliance risk, whether your team built them or bought them
- **From the vendor's own documents:** Clearly AI reads model cards, security documentation, contracts, and DPAs, and answers your AI risk assessment from them, with every answer cited to the page it came from
- **Gaps flagged:** When a vendor doesn't say how it uses your data or whether it trains on it, Clearly AI marks the answer as missing instead of guessing
- **Reviewed with the rest of the vendor:** AI risk reviews run alongside your vendor risk assessment, on the same vendor record [See how vendor reviews work](https://clearly-ai.com/solutions/third-party-risk)

### Why not just add AI questions to the vendor questionnaire?

A questionnaire tells you what the vendor says about itself, usually weeks later. Clearly AI checks those answers against the model cards, contracts, and DPAs the vendor already sent, and flags where they disagree. Your analyst reviews a cited draft instead of a self-attestation.

![An AI risk review in Clearly AI showing each answer's status and the evidence behind it.](https://clearly-ai.com/ai-agentic-security/figma/ai-risk-review-policy-assessment.webp)

_AI governance_

## AI governance decisions you can defend

An AI governance program needs consistent decisions and a record of how each one was made. Clearly AI gives you both.

- **Your AI policy, as a live review:** Upload your AI use policy, risk thresholds, or responsible AI assessment. Clearly AI turns it into a versioned review template in hours.
- **Mapped to the rules you answer to:** Configure reviews for regulations like the EU AI Act, plus the frameworks and internal standards your program uses
- **Your reviewer makes the call:** Edit any answer, ask the Clearly AI agent why it reached a finding, or rerun the review when the system changes
- **A recorded decision:** Clearly AI records who approved each review, when, and against which template version
- **Works with OneTrust:** Check AI governance assessments in OneTrust against the review Clearly AI produced

_One platform_

## AI security and AI governance on one platform

AI risk touches security, privacy, and governance at the same time. Clearly AI runs those reviews together, on one platform and one license.

- **One intake, every review:** A new AI feature can run a MAESTRO threat model, a privacy impact assessment, and an AI risk review in parallel from a single workflow [See how workflows run reviews in parallel](https://clearly-ai.com/platform/workflows)
- **Business owners answer once:** Every review of the same AI system uses the same documents and context
- **Shared with privacy:** AI systems appear in your data map alongside the data they use and the vendors involved [See privacy operations](https://clearly-ai.com/solutions/privacy)
- **Tracked to close:** High-risk findings open Jira tickets or post to Slack, and stay in the risk registry until they're resolved [See how the risk registry works](https://clearly-ai.com/platform/resolve/risk-registry)

At Rivian, privacy and AI governance now run on the same pipeline, using the same risk evaluation framework.

### Product Security

_FAQ_

## Answers to your top questions

### What is agentic AI security?

Agentic AI security is the practice of finding and reducing the risks introduced by AI agents: systems that make decisions, call tools, and act on data on their own. Common risks include prompt injection, excessive tool permissions, data leakage, and unsafe autonomy. Clearly AI threat models agentic systems with MAESTRO and cites every finding to its source.

### What is the MAESTRO threat modeling framework?

MAESTRO is a threat modeling framework designed for agentic AI. It breaks an AI system into layers, from foundation models and data to agent frameworks, infrastructure, and agent ecosystems, and identifies threats at each layer. Clearly AI runs MAESTRO threat models from your agent designs, tool definitions, and code.

### Can Clearly AI threat model an AI agent?

Yes. Clearly AI reads the agent's design docs, system prompts, tool definitions, and code, and drafts a threat model covering its models, tools, data access, and connections to other agents and MCP servers. A reviewer on your team edits and approves it, and Clearly AI records who approved it and when.

### How does Clearly AI secure code written by AI coding agents?

Coding agents call the Clearly AI MCP server in plan mode and get security requirements and open design questions before they write code. Before merge, implementation reviews check the change for drift from the plan and design, and security-impacting changes get a new threat model. It works with Cursor, Claude Code, Kiro, Devin, Codex, and any MCP-compatible agent.

[See how security works in the IDE](https://clearly-ai.com/platform/ide-and-mcp)

### Can Clearly AI review third-party AI vendors?

Yes. Clearly AI drafts AI risk reviews from a vendor's model cards, security documentation, contracts, and DPAs, flags what's missing, and runs them alongside your vendor risk assessment on the same vendor record.

[See how vendor reviews work](https://clearly-ai.com/solutions/third-party-risk)

### Can we use our own AI policy or risk assessment?

Yes. Upload your AI use policy, risk thresholds, or responsible AI assessment, and Clearly AI turns it into a versioned review template in hours. Every review records which template version it ran against.

[See how tuning and customization work](https://clearly-ai.com/platform/quality)

### Does Clearly AI support the EU AI Act?

Yes. You can configure Clearly AI to assess AI systems against the EU AI Act, along with the other frameworks and internal AI policies your governance program uses.

[See supported regulations](https://clearly-ai.com/solutions/compliance)

### Is Clearly AI an AI firewall or runtime monitoring tool?

No. Clearly AI doesn't sit in front of your models or watch prompts at runtime. Each review is a point-in-time assessment of a specific version of an AI system, run at design and implementation time from your docs, tickets, and code, so risks are addressed before they ship. It complements runtime guardrails rather than replacing them.

### Does Clearly AI train on our data?

No. Clearly AI never trains models on customer data and is SOC 2 Type II certified. You can also bring your own model provider keys, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Amazon Bedrock.

### Can we build AI security reviews ourselves with an LLM?

You can, but you'd be writing and maintaining it indefinitely, and every new framework, regulation, or agent pattern would need another engineering sprint. Clearly AI delivers practitioner-grade accuracy from day one, with versioned templates, cited findings, and workflow integrations already built.

[Build vs. buy: the real cost](https://clearly-ai.com/compare/claude-chatgpt)

### Can security and AI governance teams use the same platform?

Yes. Threat models, AI risk reviews, privacy impact assessments, and vendor risk reviews all run on Clearly AI under one license, using the same documents and context.
